Subject-Verb Agreement

singular add 's'

words ending with 's' is singular.
economics, AIDS

are, a child

plural without 's'

scissors, eyeglasses, pants were plural because it have two parts.

were, children


indefinite pronouns are singular.

every, everyone, everybody, each, neither, either, none, one, no one.

example:

Every student in all classes (has,have) been notified of CLAST test date.

but for neither and either.
we must identify the subject first.
subject nears to the verb.

example:

Neither of the men (meets,meet) his class every day.
men are plural so the answer are meet.

Either my cousin or my uncle (was,were) on the critical list.
my cousin or my uncle are plural. the answer is were.

collective nouns also singular and can be plural too.

example:

jury decided = singular
jury undecided = plural.


here, there, it = plural
it can't be a subject. so we must identify the subject after the verbs.

example:

Here are my reason for quitting.
its plural.

money and measurement = singular

the number = singular
but
a number = plural

titles = singular

along with ..
together with ..
